The Italian village of Equi Terme has been an important spa resort since Roman times and is renowned for its warm, mineral-rich springs. The village is situated in Tuscany, on the northern edge of the Apuan Alps in the Carrara massif.

To the south-east of Equi Terme lies a narrow, steep natural gorge carved into the rock by the River Lucido. At the end of the gorge is a marble quarry. To allow transport vehicles to pass through the gorge, a narrow, single-lane gravel track and two small tunnels were built. This route is open to the public at all times up to the entrance to the quarry. However, as there are hardly any places to turn or give way, it is advisable to visit at the weekend to avoid the transport vehicles.

Between the two tunnels lies the small votive shrine of the Madonna del Cavatore.

The road is situated in the Italian province of Massa-Carrara, in the region of Tuscany.
