Description
The Estéron River has cut a very steep and very deep gorge in the limestone at Saint Auban, running from south to north. On the west side of the Clue de Saint-Auban, the D2211 road has been carved into the rock. Smaller and larger grottos are often found, carved out by the river over time. The largest grotto, about in the middle of the gorge, has been turned into an open-air church. From the north, you first drive up some switchbacks to gain altitude and then through 2 tunnels. The road is well maintained and easy to drive. The gorge is located in the region of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur and there in the department of Alpes-Maritimes / Maritime Alps.
This route belongs to the so-called "French Balcony Roads".
