Clue du Riolan, Balcony Road D17, Maritime Alps, France – by motorcycle

Description

The balcony road D17, coming from the south (from Sigale) for about 5 km, crosses two ridges with high valley to go back downhill on the north side through a gorge towards La Combe. In doing so, the road crosses the Clue de Riolan, a narrow and very steep rocky incision cut into the rock over time by the Riolan River. The road is located east of the gorge in the steep rock walls. There are also some short tunnels to cross, but overall the road is easy to follow. At the southern entrance of the gorge there is an old medieval bridge, which can be crossed as a pedestrian and there you can get a good view of the gorge. The road is located in the region of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur and there in the department of Alpes-Maritimes / Maritime Alps.

This route belongs to the so-called "French Balcony Roads".
