Description

North of Nice, about 30 km from the Mediterranean coast, there is a mountain range through which the Var River flows at a narrow point. At the same place, this river joins the Tinée river. The river Var comes from the west, the river Tinée from the north. The rivers continue southwards and then flow into the Mediterranean at Nice.

In addition to the rivers, roads that connect, for example, Nice with Entrevaux or Nice with Isola, also run through this narrows. In addition, the railway line between Nice and Entrevaux also runs through there. This results in a somewhat complex traffic routing, characterised by several tunnels, bridges, hairpin bends and also one-way streets.

Coming from the south, north of the village of Le Plan du Var, the M6202 road begins through the Défilé du Chaudan; then through the Gorges de Mescla. Especially the section in the Gorges de Mescla is designed as a two-lane one-way road. The roads are well-maintained and easy to drive on.

The M2205 road continues from here via the "Route de la Tinée".

The roads are located in the department of Alpes-Maritimes / Maritime Alps and there in the province of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur.
