The Susten Pass is 2,224 metres high and connects the valley town of Innertkirchen in the west with the valley town of Wassen in the east . The entire pass crossing is about 45 km long, with about 27 km on the western ascent and about 18 km on the eastern ascent. The road connects the Swiss cantons of Bern in the west and Uri in the east.
The road (Main Road 11) was not completed until 1945 and was inaugurated in 1946.
The Susten Pass is normally closed to public traffic from November to May due to snowfall and ice.
The western ascent of the pass road is located in the municipality of Interlaken-Oberhasli in the Swiss canton of Bern.
