The Susten Pass is 2,224 metres high and connects the valley town of Wassen in the east with the valley town of Innertkirchen in the west. The entire pass crossing is about 45 km long, with about 18 km on the eastern ascent and about 27 km on the western ascent. The road (Main Road 11) was not completed until 1945 and was inaugurated in 1946.
The Susten Pass is normally closed to public traffic from November to May due to snowfall and ice.
The eastern ascent of the pass road is located in the municipality of Wassen in the Swiss canton of Uri.
