Description

The D29 balcony road is a stretch of about 3 km that connects the valley of the river Aude, and thus the main D118 road, with the much higher village of Fontanès-de-Sault. The road branches off to the west about 1.5 km north of the Château d'Usson, just opposite a large power station. Here the road is cut into the rock, has some overhangs, partly very high retaining walls and two small tunnels cut into the rock. The road is quite narrow. Two cars can only pass each other at certain passing points, so usually one has to back up accordingly. Also, stones and debris must be expected to fall from the rock walls from time to time. Otherwise, the road is easy to drive on. The road is located in the region of Occitania and there in the department of Aude.

This route belongs to the so-called "French Balcony Roads".
