Description

The balcony road D40 leads from the branch of the road D212 east of Vignevieille in a southeasterly direction to the village Termes and then further south. The village of Termes is known for the Château Termes, which is well worth seeing. The road leads through the Clue de Terminet, which the river Le Sou has dug very deep and steeply into the rock there. The road also passes through two tunnels. The road and the tunnels, although unlit, are well maintained and easy to drive on. The road is located in the region of Occitania and there in the department of Aude.

This route belongs to the so-called "French Balcony Roads".
