Description
The balcony road D520B runs about 10 km along the Gorges de Guiers Mort, from St. Laurent du Pont up to La Diat / St. Pierre de Chartreuse. The road climbs about 380 meters in altitude. There are a few short, unlit tunnels, but the road is easy to drive on. The road is located in the department Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes / Isère and there in the massif of the Chartreuse. The gorge was cut into the limestone by the river Guiers Mort (dead mistletoe). Further north there is the river Guiers Vif (living mistletoe) and both rivers merge into the Guiers at Les Echelles. Near the modern bridge St. Bruno there is the medieval bridge Pont Pérant, which dates back to the 15th century.
This route belongs to the so-called "French Balcony Roads".
