Description

The balcony road D123 leads about 7.5 km from the south (from Padern) to the junction Maisons / Montgaillard in the north. In doing so, the road always runs along the right bank of the river Le Torgan, which carved the gorge and which flows south through the gorge. At first, the road passes by some meadows and through some woods. Then the gorge narrows and the road is cut out of the rock in parts and passes rock overhangs. Other parts of the road are secured by high retaining walls that carry the road along well above the river. The road is well maintained and except for a few blind spots where you have to expect oncoming traffic, the road is fairly easy to drive on. The road is located in the region of Occitania and there in the department of Aude.

This route belongs to the so-called "French Balcony Roads".
