Description

The balcony road D2202 leads for a total of about 20 km from St. Benoît / Entrevaux in the south to Guillaumes in the north through the Gorges du Daluis. The drive through the Var valley passes first Enriez, then Sausses and then Daluis. After about 11 km you reach the bridge Pont de Berthéon, where the most impressive part of the gorge begins. Red-brown rocks and green vegetation provide a special contrast and the route high up on the steep rock faces offers a beautiful view of the valley partly down to the river. Most of the route runs along a former railroad line; the tunnels are also from this period of use. At the northern end of the gorge is the former railroad bridge Pont de la Mariée (Bridge of the Bride), which is open to pedestrians and offers a good view of the depths. The film shows the 7 km long upper part of the gorge from the Pont de Berthéon to the Pont de la Mariée. The road is located in the province Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur and there in the department Alpes-Maritimes / Maritime Alps.This route belongs to the so-called "French Balcony Roads".
