Description

At Les Gleizolles, the road to Col de Vars (D902) turns north from the main D900 road. The road runs parallel to the Ubaye River for about 6.5 km on the valley floor until the village of Saint-Paul-sur-Ubaye is reached. Here the road turns northwest and the actual ascent to the pass begins. After another 8.5 km you reach the top of the pass at 2108 meters. The road is very well maintained throughout and easy to drive on.

The pass forms the border between the departments of Alpes-de-Haute-Provence in the south and Hautes-Alpes in the north. The pass road connects the towns of Barcelonette and Jausiers in the south with the town of Guillestre in the north. To the north, just a few kilometers below the top of the pass, is the village of Vars, which is the center of a large, much-visited ski area.

The road is located in the department of Alpes-de-Haute-Provence and there in the province of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur.
