Description
The D4085 balcony road runs north from Castellane to the village of Barrême for a total distance of about 22.5 km. At about the halfway point, the Clue de la Roche Percée can be crossed. Through this rocky ridge, about 600 meters wide, the road leads east above a gorge through which the river Ravin de Taulanne flows. The passage is closed on the north side by a rock gate. Although the site is known on most maps as Clue de la Roche Percée, the passage is also called Clue de Taulanne because of the river and the village of Taulanne to the south. The road is wide, well built and easy to drive. Only at the rock gate it can get a bit narrow, especially when larger vehicles meet. The road is located in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence department and there in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region.
This route belongs to the so-called "French Balcony Roads".
