Description
The Estany de Cavallers was initially a natural lake dammed by a natural rock barrier in the course of the river Noguera de Tor. In 1960, a dam, the Presa de Cavallers, was built on this rock barrier, increasing the capacity of the lake many times over. The hydroelectric power generated was to be used to power a hydroelectric plant located about 4 km to the south in Caldes de Boi. The dam has a height of about 70 meters, is about 360 meters long and is characterized by its characteristic shape. The lake and also the approx. 8 km long approach are located at the northern end of the Val de Boi. Up to Caldes de Boi the road has 2 lanes and is very easy to drive on. Then the road continues with 1 lane; you have to watch out for oncoming traffic. If you are careful, this section of the road is also easy to drive. Only a few hundred meters north of Caldes de Boi there is a guard house where the access to the area is controlled. The route is located in the province of Lleida and there in the region of Catalonia.
